Week 2: Positive words make all the difference
This came for me in the mail today. I signed up for a small local race in aid of Bone Cancer Research Trust, my first in 12 years. It’s 5k, which is much less than I usually run in one go, let alone a week, so I figured it’d be a good place to start. I tend to get hopelessly anxious before a race, and as I have another one at the end of the month that’s longer and tougher, I thought this would make for good practice.
And it’s for a good cause, of course.
What I didn’t expect was what came in the mail. A little card with a handwritten message to say thank you for signing up. It was the sweetest thing to receive, especially as there’s at least 200 other people signed up, so even if it is a small race, that’s a lot of people to write a message to. Makes it easier to toe the start line, even if it’s going to be as wet and horrible as the BBC weather app promises.
These things make all the difference.
